CALL FOR PAPERS

The Dynamics of Remembering and Forgetting in Nineteenth Century British
Literature (10/1/02, 3/6/03-3/9/03, NEMLA)

1850 saw the publication of Wordsworth's The Prelude, Tennyson's In
Memoriam, and Dickens's David Copperfield, classic explorations of the
dynamics of memory and forgetting. But a number of the age's artists, poets
and novelists alike, turned their attention as well to such matters, for
many of them were also fascinated with those various desires and fears that
compel us to remember and forget, helping to shape the narratives we tell
and those we cannot or will not tell. I am looking for papers exploring
what the age's writers had to say about these matters.

Proposals should consist of an abstract of approximately 250-350 words and
should be sent before October 1, 2002.
