Keynote Speaker: Romesh Gunesekera, Author of The Sandglass and Reef

"Postcolonial Exile"

I am soliciting paper proposals for a panel investigating various notions of
"postcolonial exile." Specific topics addressed in these 15-minute
presentations might include:

>Responses to Edward Said's seminal essay, "Reflections on Exile."
>Negotiations between Modernist conceptions of exile and postcolonial responses.
>Exile and its inflection through a postcolonial poetics.
>Exile in the age of globalization.

Other proposals dealing with migration, diaspora, and postcolonial displacement
will also be considered.

Please submit a one-page (250-300 words) abstract by Oct. 10, 2002. All
submissions should be accompanied by the following information: name, academic
affiliation, mailing address and telephone numbers, paper title, and national
origin(s) and genre or work(s), text(s) discussed. E-mail is preferred
