GENERATION X (AND Y) ART AND CULTURE
24th Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Conference

Papers sought that investigate artistic works by and/or social issues
concerning Generation X (The American generation born between approximately
1960 and 1980). What issues do Generation X artists address that are
specific to their generation? How does Generation X (or Y) differ from
previous American generations? Have Generation X literary, television and
film genres arisen in the past 15 years? If so, what characterizes these
genres and how do they differ from other genres? Papers focusing on
specific Generation X authors, filmmakers, musicians, or television shows
are encouraged. Other topics relating to Generation X such as any topic
dealing with Generation Y (born after 1980), (post)postmodernism,
independent film, computer technology and the Internet will also be
considered.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES/DEADLINE:
Send a 250-word abstract and brief biographical information to the area
chair listed below by December 1, 2002. Panel presentations of 3-4 speakers,
roundtable sessions, or alternative formats are encouraged. Audiovisual
needs (VCR, monitor, 16mm slide projector, overhead projector, etc.) should
be included with your proposal. Email submissions are welcome.
