Call for Papers
William Dean Howells Society Panels at ALA 2003
Cambridge, Massachusetts May 22-25, 2003
The William Dean Howells Society will sponsor two panels at the American
Literature Association Conference in 2003.
1) "Howells in and of the Community." How the community in which
Howells lived at a given time affected him and/or his writing, e.g., in
Ohio, Venice, Boston, New York.
2) "Howells in the Twentieth Century: His Art, Influence, Legacy."
Topics might include Howells and his biographers, his critics, his
reputation, his importance to later writers, his late novels, his place in
literary history.
Please send proposals of 500 words or completed papers by December 16, 2002
