The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Studies Association will
convene its annual conference May 31-June 2, 2003 at
Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The
conference coincides with the Congress of Humanities
and Social Sciences. This year’s conference theme is
“Conflict and Cooperation.”

To that end, a panel titled “All the Men Are White,
Looks Like the Women Are Too, But Some of Us Know
Better” is being proposed that will discuss how this
theme of conflict and cooperation is reflected and/or
refracted through the lens of race and sexuality.

Papers might explore (this is a partial list;
presenters are, of course, welcome to discuss their
own thoughts about the panel’s focus):

*Racism in the LGBTQ communities

*Homophobia and homoignorance in communities of color

*Literary representations of LGBTQ people of color

*How critical race theory and “queer studies” can be
integrated

*How the intersection(s) of race and sexuality are
negotiated through theory and/or practice

*Eminem/Marshall Mathers/Slim Shady

*Interracial dating in LGBTQ communities

*The representation of people of color in gay
pornography

*(Re)Viewing the Stonewall Uprising from the
perspective of LGBTQ people of color

*The virtual dearth of LGBTQ individuals of color on
such ostensibly groundbreaking television programs as
“Ellen,” “Will and Grace,” and “Queer As Folk”

To allow time for audience interaction, papers must be
read in a twenty-minute time-frame. Please submit
abstracts, completed papers, or questions by December
15 to (e-mail submissions preferred):
