Call for Papers: William Bartram's Manuscripts: A Selection of =
Unpublished Writings with Critical Essays.

=20

Despite the importance of William Bartram to early national =
environmental history and literature, scholarship tends to focus on his =
one book, Travels in North and South Carolina, Georgia, East & West =
Florida, the Cherokee Country, the Extensive Territories of the =
Muscogulges, or Creek Confederacy, and the Country of the Chactaws =
(1791). This volume seeks to open new opportunity for study by =
representing the full range of Bartram's writing over the course of his =
long life. =20

=20

The proposed volume will consist of two parts. Part One will offer a =
representative sampling of unpublished writings by Bartram: for example, =
the drafts to Travels, his philosophical essays, his weather journal, =
his commonplace book, and selected correspondence. Part Two will =
include interpretative essays that are paired with the primary =
manuscripts, showing how scholars from different disciplines use these =
texts.

The editors, Nancy Hoffmann and Thomas Hallock, seek contributions from =
scholars that are familiar with the Bartram archive. Please direct =
inquiries and/or correspondence, by 1 December, to the addresses below:
