Conference on Belief Traditions in the South
Call for Papers
The South Carolina Traditional Arts Network, a statewide organization
devoted to the documentation, preservation, and celebration of SC folklore
and folklife, in partnership with the SC State Museum and the University of
South Carolina’s McKissick Museum will host a day-long conference on belief
traditions in South Carolina and the surrounding region. The conference
will be held March 8, 2003 at the SC State Museum in Columbia, SC. We are
seeking papers, panels, and presentations that address the artistic, verbal,
material, musical, and performance traditions of belief communities in our
region. Presenters might include folklorists, religious studies scholars,
historians, arts and cultural agency staff members, community activists, or
traditional artists. Presentations should be no longer than twenty minutes
and should address some aspect of traditional belief, community-based
religious activities, or traditional arts and customs associated with
communities of faith in the southeastern US.
