Menckeniana, a refereed scholarly quarterly, invites papers up to 25
pages in length that discuss the literary criticism of author, editor
and scholar H.L. Mencken during his tenure as editor of the Smart Set
and/or the American Mercury. Possible topics could include Mencken's
influence on other journals in the U.S. and abroad; his criteria for
judging a literary work; his attitude toward poetry. Examinations of
Mencken's professional relationships or correspondence with other
writers and editors are also welcome. Very brief papers (3-5 pages)
may succinctly present some item of scholarly significance of
interest to Mencken scholars that does not lend itself to treatment
as a full-length journal article. Citations should follow Chicago
Manual of Style. Send completed papers to S.L. Harrison, Editor, c/o
Menckeniana, 5783 S.W. 40th Street #221, Miami, FL 33155 USA; or
e-mail as a text file to sharrison@umiami.edu.
