Expanding Paradigms: What is Education Anyway?

York University Graduate Programme In Education
Mar. 1, 2003 - York University Student Centre
Toronto,Ontario,Canada

York University's graduate program in education invites submissions in the
following categories for the upcoming 2003 conference. All submissions
should be sent via e-mail to jennifer_gee@edu.yorku.ca. The deadline for
all submissions is January 15, 2003.

Symposium/Panel Sessions

Each panel discussion provides an opportunity for an in-depth, yet casual,
discussion about an issue or problem in education among people who have
particular knowledge or insight into the topic. This will be followed by
audience participation. Below is a list of the panel sessions being
offered.

(Dis)ability in Education Language & Literacy Acquisition

Alternative Schooling Imagination, Creativity and the Arts in Education

Educational Reform in Ontario IT from a Global Perspective

Feminist Practice In Education Extra-curriculars: Are they Really Extra?

Schooling, Multiculturalism and Anti-racist Education

Education for Sustainability

Interested participants should submit a 150 word proposal, which outlines
their experience, research, and interest in the topic, along with what
they intend to talk about during the discussion.

Display Board Presentations

Display board presentations are an informal way for people to share their
research in a two dimensional format. Display boards can be about any
topic, as long as they, in some way, address the central conference
question of “what is education anyway?”

Interested participants should submit a brief, one paragraph outline of
what topic/issue their display board will be addressing.

(Display board submissions do not require attendance at the conference,
however, participants must be prepared to set up their display board in
advance.)

Roundtable Sessions

These sessions involve one person presenting a prepared paper to an
audience, who will then comment and critique the paper for the benefit of
the presenter's future work.

Roundtable sessions can be about any topic that addresses the conference's
central theme of “what is education anyway?”

Interested participants should submit a brief one or two paragraph
proposal, outlining the issue, theoretical framework, and methodology that
the paper discusses.
