Organising Committee: Prof. Roy C. Boland (Spanish Program), Dr.
Lilit Thwaites (Spanish Program), Dr. Sue Thomas (English Program)
and Prof. Roger Parish (Pro Vice-Chancellor).

How are identities, both personal and collective, shaped and
negotiated through memory of geographical or social place? What roles
have ideas of place, worlds and memory played in articulations or
representations of identities? How have disparate historical memories
of place been or how might they be negotiated in the production of
communal or national identities?

The organisers invite offers of 20-minute papers on these themes.
While the organisers would welcome proposals from a broad range of
disciplines, the conference might be of particular interest to
researchers in the following areas:

PAPERS
If you wish to present a paper, please send a brief abstract of no more
than 250 words. Abstracts should be submitted by email or by post (please
include a disk, 3.5" floppy in Microsoft Word for MacIntosh or PC, and two
hard copies). They must be received by 7th February, 2003. Notification of
acceptance of your paper will be sent by 1st March, 2003.

A selection of refereed papers will be published. Submissions for
publication should include two hard copies accompanied by an electronic
copy on a 3.5" floppy disk in Microsoft Word for PC or MacIntosh.
Manuscripts should be handed in at the registration desk upon arrival.
Manuscripts should follow current MLA format, not exceeding twenty A4
double spaced pages. Notes should be kept to a minimum.

Language: Papers may be delivered in English, Spanish Catalan, or Galician
