CFP: Teaching Multicultural Children's Lit. (1/21/03; ChLA, 6/5/03-6/8/03)

I am currently putting together a proposal for a roundtable discussion on
teaching multicultural children's literature or on teaching
multiculturalism and children's literature for the Children's Literature
Association conference this summer. We had a very successful general
syllabus exchange at last year's conference and will take a similar
format this year: each speaker will take about five minutes to talk
about something specific, such as particular book or assignment that
works well, a useful technique for connecting students with texts, or a
course plan/format that is effective. Then we'll open up for discussion
with the audience.

Anyone who is interested in participating, please send me a brief
abstract describing the topic that you would like to discuss. This panel
is not limited to teaching at the college level--I would love to hear
about teaching multicultural literature to K-12 students;
library-oriented discussions are very welcome as well. I hope to have
four or five panelists altogether, as we did last year.

Because the proposal is due at ChLa on January 31st, I'll need to get
everyone rounded up pretty soon so that I can get it written. Therefore,
the deadline for abstracts from potential panelists is January 21st
(quite soon, I know--sorry about that!)

Email abstracts are fine; send to jstallcup@juno.com (no attachments,
please!) If you prefer to send by snail mail, the address is below; make
sure you send it in time to reach me by January 17th--that's not a
postmark deadline.

Happy New Year!
