CALL FOR PAPERS: “Traveling Women in the Long 19th Century”

Contributors are invited to submit abstracts for a proposed panel at
(dis)junctions 2003: “morphing the written word,” University of California,
Riverside’s 10th Annual Humanities Graduate Student Conference April 11 -
April 12 2003, that would address the narratives of women travelers during
the long 19th century. Possible topics may include, but certainly are not
limited to:
-colonial encounters
-religion/civilizing missions
-arts and culture
-nationalism and literature
-woman and nation
-identity and subjectivity

Possible points of departure may include:
-Mary Lady Curzon
-Sunity Devi
-Mary Kingsley
-Harriet Martineau
-Pandita Ramabai
-Cornelia Sorabji
