at Tallinn Pedagogical University

announces

An International Conference
Multicultural Perspectives on English Language and Literature

to be held on May 22-23, 2003
at Tallinn Pedagogical University, Estonia

The conference is held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the foundation
of the Department of English, and its aim is to bring together researchers
of different philological disciplines (English language teaching methods,
linguistics, literatures in English, and cultural studies). The conference
will take the form of plenaries, talks, and discussions. Plenary sessions
will be conducted by distinguished scholars and practitioners from Great
Britain and the United States (Prof. Richard Nordquist from Armstrong State
Atlantic University, Savannah, GA, USA; Prof. Tony Thorne from King's
College, University of London, UK; and Mr Hamish Norbrook from the BBC).
Presentations from participants which adopt an interdisciplinary perspective
are particularly welcome.

The official working language of the conference will be English. The length
of plenary speeches is 45 minutes plus 15 minutes for discussion.
Presentation time is limited to 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion.
The deadline for registration and abstracts for presentations is February 21,
2003. Abstracts summarising the presentations should not exceed a maximum of
250 words. Selected papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings.

The conference fee is EUR 20 or EEK 300, payable upon arrival. Registration
forms and abstracts should be submitted to the Department Secretary via the
