Scholarly work on women in the rhetorical tradition is
a fairly new field, and, following from Andrea
Lunsford and Cheryl Glenns work on retelling and
reclaiming the rhetoric of women writers, we would
like to invite submissions for papers on the theme of
Womens Rhetoric(s). We are interested in work that
addresses theories and practices of the rhetoric of
women, but also work that interrogates the very
conception of a womens rhetoric(s). How have women
invented a realm of discourse within the context of
male dominated discourse? Or have they? Has this way
of speaking become yet another codified category or
does it open up other epistemologies? What are the
convergences between a theory of womens rhetoric(s)
and ecriture feminine? How does womens writing
constitute its own genre? In considering such issues,
how might we avoid the charge of biological
essentialism?
Please send 1-2 page abstracts that explore the issue
of women's rhetoric(s).
Deadline February 28 2003
