CFP: Collecting 'Across the Great Divide' (UK) (03/19/03; 07/18-21/03)
 
New Deadline: March 19, 2003.

How did collectors, collections, and museums help shape the literary,
theoretical, economic and material transatlantic cultural exchange between
the British Isles and the Americas? This panel will be of special interest
to historians, art historians and those interested in museum studies,
although abstracts from other fields are also welcome.

The panel will be part of the fourth Symbiosis conference 'Across the
Great Divide', Edinburgh, Scotland, July 18-21, 2003, sponsored by the
STAR Project in collaboration with Symbiosis, a journal of Anglo-American
literary relations. Among the conference events will be an afternoon at
the Museum of Scotland, which will include a lecture on its upcoming
Scottish emigration exhibit and guided tours by the museum curators, as
well as Dr. Jenni Calder's plenary lecture, 'Changing Places: The
Migrating Meanings of Objects.

Papers should be no more than twenty minutes and must be fully prepared
well ahead of the meeting.
  
Abstracts should be no more than 250 words. A separate paragraph should be
provided summarizing the applicant's career. Please provide both the
abstract and biographical information within the body of the e-mail.
Attachments will not be opened. E-mails should be sent to Prof. Edward A.
Aiken, Director, Lowe Art Gallery, and Chair, Graduate Program in Museum
Studies Syracuse University, eaaiken_at_syr.edu. Do not send abstracts by
standard mail.
