Call for Papers and Panels
We are soliciting proposals for papers and panels from graduate
students in English studies and are interested in diverse
perspectives including African American Studies, Cultural Studies,
Disability Studies, Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered/Queer Studies, Latino/a
Studies, Media Studies, Textual Studies, Women's Studies, Gender
Studies, Critical Theory, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Composition
and Rhetoric, Professional Writing, Secondary Education, Pedagogy,
and Linguistics. Possible topics might include interpretations of
literary (and non-literary) texts, reception of texts, adaptations of
texts, inter-textualities, literacies, translations, archival
research, postmodernist texts, visual culture and writing across the
curriculum.
Panels will be one and a half hours long. Presentations will be
15-20 minutes long (papers should 6-8 pages in length).

Conference proposals for papers must consist of a one page (250-350
word) abstract with a title and must also include a separate cover
sheet with name, title of paper, day and evening phone numbers, fax
number, e-mail address, and surface mail address of the presenter.
Conference proposals for panels must consist of a document that
provides an overall description of the panel (approximately 250
words) and a 250-350 word abstract for each paper or presentation;
panel proposals must also include a separate cover sheet with names,
titles of panel and papers, day and evening phone numbers, fax
number, e-mail address, and surface mail address of all presenters.
Please indicate whether you would be willing to chair a session.
Electronic submission is strongly preferred.
Send e-mail or e-mail with attachment of the proposal to Vara Neverow
(neverowv1_at_southernct.edu) . The deadline for submissions is 5:00pm
on Monday, April 7th, 2003. Presenters will be notified of the
committee's decision by email on or about April 11th, 2003.
There will be a $15 conference registration fee ($5 for Southern CT
students and faculty), due by April 15th; on-site registration fees
will be $20 ($10 for Southern CT students and faculty). Registration
fees include all food service (continental breakfast, beverage
breaks, luncheon and closing reception).

=46rom New York Merritt Parkway North: Exit 59. Turn right on Whalley
Avenue. Continue on Whalley to Fitch Street. Turn left onto Fitch
Street, which bisects the campus; turn right onto Crescent Street (at
the traffic light before the bridge); turn left into the parking
lot-the Student Center is the second building from the right.
=46rom New York I-95 North: Exit 44 (Kimberly Ave., Route 10). Turn
right at the end of the exit onto Kimberly Avenue, then left at the
stoplight onto Ella Grasso Boulevard, Route 10. Ella Grasso Boulevard
ends at Crescent Street, near the south entrance to the campus; turn
left onto Crescent Street and right into the parking lot---the
Student Center is the second building from the right.
=46rom New London I-95 South: Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven). Go to the
end of the connector and exit onto Frontage Road. Continue on
=46rontage Road (Route 34), which ends at Ella Grasso Boulevard. Turn
right onto Ella Grasso Boulevard, which ends at Crescent Street, near
the south entrance to the campus; turn left onto Crescent Street and
right into the parking lot---the Student Center is the second
building from the right.
=46rom Hartford Wilbur Cross Parkway South: Exit 60 (Dixwell Avenue).
Head south on Dixwell Avenue to Arch Street. Turn right at Arch
Street, and left at Fitch Street, which bisects the campus; turn
right onto Crescent Street (at the traffic light before the bridge);
turn left into the parking lot-the Student Center is the second
building from the right.
