Proposed special session for the upcoming Annual MLA Conference in San
Diego, California, 27-30 December 2003.

How do sexual, religious, or social taboos affect pedagogy? What are the
taboos of teaching, and what is taboo to teach? What strategies can be
employed to address resistance and /or avoidance of taboo subject matter in
the classroom? How might these strategies succeed or fail, and why?
