Original CFP:
Special Graduate Student Session at SAMLA 2003

Celebrating Heritage: Appalachia from the Inside

In the spirit of Congress's declaration of 2002-2003 as the Year
of Appalachia, this panel invites natives of the region to
celebrate their Appalachian heritage. This panel is open to
graduate students from Appalachia or directly descended from out-
migrants whose papers focus on the literary use of some aspect of
regional heritage in which the panelist takes pride. Although most
people limit their conception of Appalachian heritage to
traditional music, arts and crafts and storytelling (and these
topics are certainly within the scope of this CFP), I am equally
interested in papers that explore values, economics and other,
more subtle, aspects of the Appalachian experience. Papers should
be 15-20 minutes in length.

Please submit a one-page abstract containing the aspect of
Appalachian heritage that will be the focus of your paper, the
literary works you intend to cite in your paper and a brief
description of your claim to Appalachian heritage by March 31,
2003 to
