CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR PANELS AND PAPERS:
Travel and Tourism
The International Colloquium for Vernacular, Hispanic, Historical,
American and Folklore Studies (formerly the Congress of the Americas)
is being held at the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico from
October 9-12, 2003. Conference participants will come from all over
the Americas and the world and bring interdisciplinary and
multi-disciplinary perspectives to the conference.
Panels and individual presentations are welcomed on a wide range of
topics from a variety of theoretical, historical, and cultural
perspectives, including anthropology, sociology, religious studies,
literary and materialist criticism and cultural studies. Topics can
include any of the following: colonial and postcolonial travel;
women's travel; travel and identity formation; travel and the
construction of the Other; ecotourism; pilgrimage or religious tourism;
commercially created tourist sites; heritage tourism; single purpose
travel or tourism (photography, natural history, literary sites, etc.);
and a host of other topics.
The deadline for submitting papers and panels is May 1, 2003, although
earlier submission of proposals is encouraged so as to allow for the
best organization of sessions.
To submit a proposal send a 150-200 word abstract via email to the area
