Chris Eyre: Adapting the Literary West for Film and Television

Short paper proposals (1-2 pages) are requested for a panel to be proposed
for the 2003 Western Literature Association Conference (Houston, TX; Oct
29-Nov 1)

Please submit abstracts for presentations on the feature-length productions
of Native American film director Chris Eyre for a proposed panel at the
Western Literature Association's 2003 conference. Although papers on any
element of Eyre's films are welcome, I am particularly interested in
presentations that foreground a discussion of "Smoke Signals," "Skins," or
"Skinwalkers" as filmed adaptations of literary works by Sherman Alexie,
Adrian Louis, and Tony Hillerman.

Please submit 1-2 page proposals directly to Michael K. Johnson
(michael.johnson@maine.edu by May 21, 2003. Email proposals are preferred,
but proposals can also be addressed to: Michael K. Johnson, Department of
Humanities, University of Maine at Farmington, Farmington, ME 04938.
