The "I" of the Beholder: Narrative Voice and Imagined Reality

What are the sources of authority and conviction in literature? What makes
an imagined reality seem "real"? How do issues of gender, culture, and
history inform the creation and reception of a narrative voice? NYCEA
invites proposals for papers by any author, from any time period, about (or
in) any genre.
POSSIBLE TOPICS INCLUDE:
Voice and culture: Intercultural and cross-cultural perspectives; intra- and
inter-cultural translation;
representing a postcolonial experience
Voice and gender; voice and narrative; first-person narration
Fantasy and science fiction
Critical theory
Lying "I"s: Truth and memory
Roots: history and narrative
Lit Wit: witnessing and literature
Please send abstracts of 250-500 words for papers and panel sessions to:
