CFP: Memory and the Cultures of the Americas (4/28/03; MMLA, 11/7/03-11/9/03)

This panel seeks papers that analyze the work of memory vis a vis the
formation of American cultures. We use American not only in the broader
hemispheric sense but also in relation to diasporic communities in and
outside the continents. We welcome interdisciplinary papers from any
period in the history of the Americas. Possible topics include but aren't
limited to: displacement and the politics of nostalgia, memory and
mourning, racial memories, the aesthetics of remembering, national
narratives and counter-memories, war memorials, etc. Send 200 word
abstract as email or Word attachment and a brief bio by 4/28/03 to:
