Update: note corrected location

The Popular Literary Landscapes panel of the Mid-Atlantic
Popular/American Culture Association welcomes abstracts of papers
(200-250 words) on literary descriptions/portrayals of the American
landscape. The descriptions may be factual or fictional, in poetry
or prose; the focus may be on land or seascape, city or countryside.
The panel is open to any submitter's thematic preference, but
requires that the submitter's choice and treatment of subject
demonstrate a sensitivity to the connection that exists between
land/seascape descriptions and the cultural ideals and values that
inform them. The panel accepts the view of Simon Schama that
landscapes (as opposed to actual places) are cultural before they are
natural.

Deadline for submissions is 15 June 2003.
The conference will meet in Wilmington, DE from 7-9 November 2003.
