CULTURAL STUDIES IN THE WORLD TODAY

Lisbon, University of Lisbon and Faculty of Letters,
November 4-7, 2003

This year's Conference is focally concerned with the world we live in, its
defining social, economic, political and cultural traits, and with how
cultural studies can contribute to a more accurate and politically
relevant knowledge of those traits and of the forces, strategies, vectors,
relations and structures of power which make such traits effective in and
changeable by social practice. We are interested in and committed to
productive dialogue with other fields of study and research and all
disciplines in the social sciences and humanities and welcome
contributions from those areas that explore and make known significant
traits of the contemporary world.

Confirmed keynote speakers:

Chantal Cornut-Gentille d'Arcy
Zygmunt Bauman
Lawrence Grossberg

We have extended the deadline for submission of 150-word abstracts to May
31, 2003

(which will allow you to take advantage of the "early bird" registration
fee. You can submit your proposal either to the general theme of the
Conference or to one of its themed sessions).
