PCA/ACA AREA: HEALTH ISSUES IN POPULAR CULTURE

POPULAR CULTURE/AMERICAN CULTURE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
SAN ANTONIO MARRIOTT RIVERCENTER HOTEL
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
APRIL 7-10, 2004

The "Health Issues in Popular Culture" PCA/ACA area encourages proposals
from historical and contemporary perspectives. The area of "Health Issues"
offers a broad range of opportunities for specific proposals. Examples may
include subjects related to drugs (botanicals, licit or illicit), alcohol,
and tobacco in popular culture; infectious and chronic diseases in popular
culture; epidemics; mental health; women and men as healers, caretakers,
and health professionals; health institutions and popular culture;
literature and health; health in the media; race, gender, class and
health; and urban and rural health. Abstracts reflecting
interdisciplinary and single discipline approaches are welcome.
