Joanna Baillie

NEMLA 2004
Pittsburgh, PA

In the past two decades, a resurgence of interest in women writers has led
to the development of a fruitful sphere for new scholarship. The late
eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century poet and playwright Joanna Baillie
is one of many women writers recently recognized by
scholars. Predominantly, Baillie's work has been incorporated into, and
thus somewhat obscured by, anthologies. Nevertheless, several of her works
have been published separately, in addition to the recent publication of
Baillie's collected letters and a new biography. Proposals on any aspect
of Baillie's life or work are welcome.

Applicants must be members of NEMLA by October 2003.
