UPDATE: Key West Hemingway

June 7-12, 2004 Key West, Florida

The deadline for abstract submissions for the Ernest Hemingway Society's
11th biennial international conference, to be held
June 7-12, 2004, in Key West, Florida, has been moved to Oct. 1, 2003.
This is due to mailing delays within our membership materials. We've had
a great response from this mailing list, so we'd like to extend a
further invitation to anyone who might have missed the original
announcement.

Just as a reminder, we welcome any topic relevant to Hemingway studies
is welcome, although we are particularly interested in
proposals relating to Hemingway's Key West writings, the influence of
the Florida Keys on his work and life, as well as his contribution to
the community's literary history.

Possible subjects include To Have and Have Not and other neglected
fiction with local settings ("After the Storm"); Hemingway's nonfiction
essays on Key West, whether humorous ("The Sights of Whitehead Street")
or political ("Who Murdered the Vets?"); the adventures and outings,
feuds and affairs that influenced Hemingway's literary development in
the 1930s; and Hemingway's relationship to other writers, past and
present, with Key West associations.

Please send 1-page paper and panel abstracts to Kirk Curnutt, Department
of English, Troy State University Montgomery, Montgomery, Alabama,
36103-4419, by October 1, 2003. Email submissions may be sent to
kcurnutt_at_tsum.edu. Graduate students presenting papers may apply for a
James Hinkle Travel Grant. A completed copy of all papers selected for
the academic program will be due May 1, 2004.
