Call for Papers
ASECS Annual Meeting, Boston, MA
March 24-28, 2004
Greetings. I am soliciting papers for a panel at the 2004 American Society for
Eighteenth-Century Studies Conference in Boston. Graduate students are welcome
and encouraged to apply. The panel I am moderating is described below:
Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Comedies
This panel on Restoration and 18th-century comedies, especially (but not
exclusively) those plays written by women, will focus broadly on
epistemological and ontological concerns. For example, how can men and women
know they are loved for their individuality rather than for their estate
values? How can women and men know that their suitors or spouses are faithful?
How is seeming related (or not) to being in these plays? How are
ideological/cultural/political concerns or anxieties reflected in the comedic
tension of these plays?
One-page proposals for papers on Restoration and 18th-century comedies should be
sent directly to atinkham_at_cox.net no later than 15 September 2003. Please
include your telephone and e-mail address. ***I will have until 1 October 2003
to send the names of participants and the titles of their papers to the
organizers in Boston.***
The main ASECS CFP is at http://asecs.press.jhu.edu/annualmeetingindex.html.
Regards,
Audrey Tinkham
