This conference seeks to explore the modernity of the Victorians, =
tracing the emergence of twentieth- and twenty-first century =
sensibilities through the literature and culture of the nineteenth =
century. All relevant topics will be considered but we particularly wish =
to encourage papers on the following:

Science, technology and medicine; innovations in form and genre; nation =
and empire; sexuality and gender; popular culture and consumption; =
contemporary representations of the Victorians.

Interdisciplinary papers will be welcomed.

=20

Please send 300-word abstracts for papers of approximately 20 minutes' =
duration to c.l.spooner@reading.ac.uk (Word attachment or in the main =
body of the email). Those who have already submitted abstracts for the =
earlier deadline will be contacted in November.
