Wolff Lecturer: Professor Lynda Nead will be talking about =91Living=20
Pictures on Dead Pages=92
The theme of the conference is to be interpreted in widest possible=20
meaning. The participants are invited to look at
1. textual imagery,
-representations of the foreign (in the constructions of identity,=20
nationhood)
-representations of the past (middle ages, restoration, enlightenment =85)=
-representations of scientific exploits and theories (e.g. Darwin, .)
-representations of gender
2. illustrations, cartoons, photographs, typography, layout/design,=20
graphics
-technical advances and the periodical
-manipulations of visual material
-political use of visual material
3. bibliographical codes: format, paper, price, advertising etc
4 similar developments abroad (periodicals in Belgium, Holland, France=20=
=85)
Proposal abstracts (500 to 1000 words) and a short cv are to be sent=20
(by mail , fax or e-mail) to the address given below before 31 December=20=
2003.
