UPDATE: Gender and Nationalism in the Long 18th C.(11/12/03;SCSECS, Santa Fe NM, 2/26/04-2/29/04)
The call for papers for this panel has been extended until 11/12/03.
Scholars such as Kathleen Wilson, Gerald Newman, and Lisa Moore have articulated a variety of ways that cultural expressions of masculinity and femininity bolstered British nationalism in the eighteenth century. We invite papers that develop, challenge, or reveal new forms of how
constructions of gender in literature, art, or material culture inform nationalism in the long eighteenth century. Contributions that consider nationalisms beyond Britain are welcome.
Please submit abstracts of 250 words by November 12, 2003. Electronic submissions preferred.
