Call for Conference Papers: Evolving Faces: Identities and the Printed
Page. Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dates: (July 29 - August 1, 2004)

Identity and its changing face find their most evocative and dramatic
representation and portrayal on the printed page. Texts of all genres
have, through the ages, created identities which, invariably, mirror the
political, social, cultural and economic transformations of their time.
Looking at identity in and through the printed page enables a rethinking
of our evolving identities, a matter that has become increasingly urgent
in these times of tremendous change. Suggested topics, which by no means
cover all areas of interest to the conference, might include;

---- national identity in a multicultural context
---- English Language and identity
---- teaching identity through literature
---- inherited resources, constraints and identity
---- publishing and the limits of the printed page

Submit an abstract by February 1, 2004, for a 20 minute paper, stating how
you interpret the theme of the conference and if you would like to
participate in one of the subtopics listed above. Abstracts should not be
more than 200 words with a brief bio. Send your abstracts to:
maclals@silverfishbooks.com as MS Word attachments.
