A Proposed Special Session: The Science of Reproduction/The
Reproduction of Science

What are some of the ways that reproduction and scientific inquiry have
been and continue to be linked in American literary history? For
example, papers might examine considerations of women's sexuality and
reproductive organs, male virility, homosexuality/lesbianism and
reproduction, actual representations of reproductive acts, birth control
discussions, eugenic debates (including more recent representations of
genetic engineering or cloning), censorship of sexual materials, etc.
As well, papers could consider the ways that scientific discourses have
been reproduced and disseminated in American texts.

1-page abstracts and short CVs should be received on or before January
12, 2004. Please e-mail or send them to:
