Colonialism and Its Aftermath
An interdisciplinary Conference
June 23 - 25, 2004
University of Tasmania, Hobart

Welcome
Colonialism recast the world map, linking disparate geographies and=20
diverse cultures under the aegis of European empires. If the sun=20
never set on the British Empire, it has also never set on scholarly=20
attempts to understand colonialism and its impact on the world.=20
Colonial and postcolonial studies across a range of humanities and=20
social sciences disciplines continue to analyse the complex cultural=20
phenomena of colonialism, addressing issues in literary studies,=20
geography, Asian studies, history, indigenous studies, art history,=20
race studies, architecture, women's studies, cultural studies, and=20
anthropology, amongst others. Much of the most interesting work in=20
this field is interdisciplinary. The University of Tasmania's=20
research cluster Colonialism and Its Aftermath invites proposals for=20
papers from scholars interested in exploring the relationship between=20
colonialism and its aftermath in innovative and interdisciplinary=20
ways.
