The Elizabeth Madox Roberts Society is currently accepting paper proposals for
its 6th Annual conference to be held April 24-26, 2004 in St. Catherine,
Kentucky. While "First Time Reader Response Papers" relating to either of
Roberts' major novels--The Great Meadow and The Time of Man--as well as her
short story collection The Haunted Mirror, are welcomed and encouraged, we are
particularly interested in papers discussing Roberts in the context of
southern literature.
Submissions on any topic relevant to Roberts are welcome. Possible
subjects include Roberts' role in shaping and defining Southern Literature;
Roberts as a Modernist; stylistic and literary comparisons and influences
(i.e., Faulkner, Warren, Beethoven, etc.); and regional historical
perspectives and interpretations--especially in regard to The Great Meadow.
Paper length is limited to no more than seven to eight pages. One page
abstracts are due January 15, 2004.
