Ricardian Realms: Courts and Conflicts Re-visited
Gregynog Conference Centre
University of Wales
30.06-2.07.2004
Plenary Speaker: Professor Maldwyn Mills
The term Ricardian Literature, first coined by J.A. Burrow in 1971, is by
now well established. This conference aims to re-evaluate the term in
relation to both the literary and historical context of Ricardian England.
We are particularly interested in papers that offer new readings of the
works of Langland, the Gawain-Poet, Gower, and Chaucer, or other literary
works from the time as well as the historical context in general that are
informed by current developments in critical theory.
We welcome proposals for papers from established academics and particularly
encourage proposals from graduate students.
Possible topics include:
Ricardian Literature and Romance
The Poetics and Politics of Rebellion/Resistance
Ricardian Literature and History/Historiography
Myth in Ricardian Literature
The Poetics and Politics of Advice
Textual and Manuscript Studies
Influences on and Influences by Ricardian Poets
Gender and Ricardian Literature
Religion and Ricardian Literature
Importance of the Vernacular
