The Department of English at Howard University takes pleasure in
announcing a conference for the critical assessment of the full canon of
Maya Angelou's "life writing." This conference will be held on Friday,
February 13, 2004 at Howard University in Washington, DC.

We invite paper and panel proposals which critically assess Maya Angelou's
work. Topics include but are not limited to the suggestions below:

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings as Foundational Text
Bridging Cultures, Crossing Lines
Maya Angelou and the Healing Narrative
Maya Angelou: Inspiration as Pedagogy
Narrating Critical History, Critical Politics
Writing "Home", Writing "Life"
The Poetic Vision of Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou and Popular Culture
Maya Angelou and Interdisciplinary Discourse (Music, Film, and Literature)
Maya Angelou and the Travel Narrative
