Call for papers for a proposed special session for

The Modern Language Association Annual Convention
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
27-30 December 2004

Deadline: 1 March 2004

Seeking papers that explore various places – geographical, historical,
rhetorical, or other – which Quakers have drawn on to constitute their
identity as a “peculiar people,” or which other writers have used to
construct the image of the Quaker. We are especially interested in
papers that focus on some aspect of Philadelphia as a center of Friends’
community and culture.
