CFP: Poetry and Politics: Do Poems Make a Difference? (2/20/04; SAMLA 2004,
Roanoke, VA, 11/12/04-11/14/04)

Special Session Proposal: Are poetry and politics mutually exclusive? Or do
they make strange, but perhaps enlightening bedfellows? Essays are invited
that address these questions, whether focusing on the work of individual
poets (modern or contemporary), specific volumes or anthologies, pedagogical
practices, specific political questions, or theoretical speculations. Open
to all writers and views along the political spectrum. Send abstracts of
250-300 words by 2/20/04 to Pennie Ticen, Assistant Professor, Department of
English and Fine Arts, Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, VA, 24450,
