Following the success of the 2002 and 2003 conferences, we are pleased to =
announce that the 3rd Annual Literary London conference will be hosted by =
the Institute of English Studies, University of London. The IES is at the =
centre of literary London in more senses than one: situated in Senate =
House in the heart of Bloomsbury it is located at a historical focus of =
literary life in London. The IES itself exists to facilitate advanced =
study and research in English Studies within the University of London and =
in the wider academic community, both nationally and internationally.=20

Literary London aims to:=20

*Investigate the changing cultural and historical geography of London.
*Place literary texts in relation to their historical and social context =
and to theoretical approaches to the study of place and development of the =
metropolis.
*Consider the social, political and spiritual fears, hopes and perceptions =
that have inspired representations of London.
*Trace different traditions of representing London.
*Examine the ways in which the pluralism of London society is reflected in =
London literature.
