CFP: The Female Gothic (3/10/04; RMMLA, 9/30/04-10/2/04)

From: Weber, Carolyn (weberc@seattleu.edu)
Date: Thu Feb 05 2004 - 22:13:03 EST

Proposals are invited for a Special Topics panel on "the Female Gothic"
to be held at the RMMLA conference in Boulder, Colorado, September 30 -
October 2, 2004. This will be an especially timely panel, given the
recent publication of Gary Kelly's 6 vol. set on the "Varieties of
Female Gothic." Papers sought may address, but are not restricted to,
Kelly's subtopics: enlightenment and terror gothic, street gothic,
erotic gothic, historical gothic and orientalist gothic. It is my hope
to foster scholarship and exploration in a new but fast developing
field. While preference will be given to the discussion of this genre in
the 18th and 19th centuries, its evolution and present form is also of
interest.

A paper title and 300-word abstract should be submitted by MARCH 10th,
2004. Submissions are welcome by post or email. If by post, please
mail c/o Dr. Carolyn Weber at the address given below. If by email,
please send to weberc@seattleu.edu.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the recent .edu spam, my university faculty email
virus scan often will not recognize, and therefore rejects, "foreign"
attachments. Therefore, please include your abstract in the body of
your email, and/or use the subject line "Female Gothic."

One does not have to be a member of the RMMLA to propose a paper, but
one must become a member by April 1st to be listed in the program.
