CFP: (dis)junctions: Transvestism, Transgenderism, and Transsexuality (grad) (3/8/04; 4/9/04-4/10/04)

This call for papers is for a proposed panel session to be held at "Disjunctions: Romancing Heteroglossia" at the University of California Riverside's 11th Annual Humanities Conference. This graduate student conference will be held April 9-10, 2004.

Panel Topic: "Trans-Formations: Transvestism, Transgenderism, and Transsexuality"

This is an investigation into the portrayal of transvestism, transgenderism, and/or transsexuality specifically in literature, art, and film. Papers on any aspect relating to these issues or focusing any period are welcome.

Issues for consideration, among others, are the following:
    Interplay of gender and sexuality
    Interaction with the Queer community
    Medical transformations
    Challenges and Complications of identity
    Fictional versus Historical figures
    Television documentaries
    Body image
    Visibilty/Invisibility
    Passing
    Position within Queer Theory
