Call for Papers: Modernism's Other Publics (4/9/04; MSA 10/21-10/24/04)

We are seeking paper proposals for the Modernist Studies Association's
upcoming "Other Modernisms/Modernism's Others" conference in Vancouver,
B.C on the topic of modernism's "Other Publics." Abstract notions of
audience, the spectating masses, or the consuming middlebrow are no longer
adequate to describe modernism's multiple, heterogeneous, and historical
publics. What publics can be unearthed (through archives or texts) to
disarticulate modernism from the coterie or the crowd? We hope to
compose panels that are interdisciplinary or international (if not both),
and so welcome proposals from all fields.

Please submit 250-word proposal and cover letter with brief biography as a
word.doc attachment to staveley@stanford.edu by APRIL 9, 2004.

Panel Organizers:
Alice Staveley, Stanford University
Andrea Zemgulys, University of Michigan
