UPDATE: INAGURAL WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA JOYCE CONFERENCE AND BLOOMSDAY
CELEBRATION
Because of confusion regarding the email address for proposals, our
deadline has been extended to March 15, 2004. The original call
follows. Please note the underscore in the email address between
franklin & bloomsday.
Please forward this notice to all appropriate parties.
You are warmly invited to participate in the inaugural Western
Pennsylvania Joyce Conference and Bloomsday (the single day during which
the action of Joyce’s novel Ulysses takes place) Celebration, to be held
on Clarion University of Pennsylvania’s Venango Campus in Oil City, PA
on June 15-16 2004. Proposals for papers are welcome on any Joycean
subject from independent, adjunct, and traditional scholars at all
levels of career, as well as graduates and advanced undergraduate
students.
In addition to papers and panels, the celebration will include Joycean
movies, a mail art show, a cocktail reception, Irish music and dancing,
and a day-long Bloomsday walking and reading tour in the beautiful and
historic Victorian downtown of Franklin, Pennsylvania. This project is
being made possible through Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), a
local decision-making program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts
(PCA), a state agency. PPA is administered in this region by the
Venango County Center for Creative Development.
Papers will be limited to 20 minutes. Conference details and
registration will be circulated in late April 2004. In the meantime,
please address any queries or send paper proposals with an abstract of
200 words by March 15, 2004, together with any special requests for
audio-visual requirements to Michael Dittman, POB 1082, Franklin, PA
16323 or franklin_bloomsday@yahoo.com
