"Religious Faith in the Academy." This is a proposed session for the
annual meeting of the Midwest Modern Language Association to be held in St.
Louis, November 4-7, 2004. The panel will very broadly address questions of
whether or not there is a place for religious faith in the contemporary
academy. Papers might deal with issues of personal faith and the conflicts
that arise in scholarship or in the academic workplace as well as
constructions of identity around religious/faith affiliation(s). They may
also deal with how/if to respectfully teach religious/faith based
texts/films in a secular setting and the problems one may encounter either
as an adherent to a particular faith teaching in a secular setting or as a
non-adherent to a particular belief system teaching believers of that
faith. Completed papers or abstracts of approximately 250 words should be
sent via e-mail to dwall12@lsu.edu or mailed in hard copy form to David
Shane Wallace, 3044 Wyoming Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 by April 15.
Both faculty and graduate students are encouraged to submit.
