Area CFP: The Vietnam Conflict

As the 2004 Presidential Elections draw closer, and John Kerry emerges as a
frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, the conflict in Vietnam is once
again receiving public and media attention. While the American public
continues to struggle to understand the Vietnam War and its effects on the
country, Vietnam War genre films and television specials keep appearing.
What can these films tell us about the perception of the Vietnam War? How
have particular films and television documentary series shaped the way
Americans think about war in general? Do these films and television
programs have an impact on the way Americans still view any potential wars
or conflicts? Have these films and television series become more about
making a political statement and less about creating art?

The Film & History League, with the Literature/Film Association, will be
holding its conference on "War in Film, Television, and History" during
November 11-14, 2004, near Dallas, TX. Full details on the location,
registration procedures, and additional area topics can be found on the web
site www.filmandhistory.org. Deadline for proposals is July 30, 2004.
