CALL FOR PAPERS / PRESENTATIONS
Interdisciplinary Landscapes: Postfeminist Practices in the Arts
Thursday 16th - Saturday 18th Sept. 2004
The relationship between feminism and the arts is a dynamic and passionate
one, each informing and critiquing the other. Across pornography, painting,
poetry and performance this interdisciplinary conference seeks to blur
boundaries and shift discourses.
We invite submissions on any aspect of feminist practice. Interdisciplinary
inquiry is encouraged and we would welcome performance and exhibition
material as well as more conventional academic papers from any
discipline(s), including dance, drama, music, fine art and history of art,
media, sociology, politics, history and literature.
Whilst the following list is not definitive, topics that you might address
include:
Contesting definitions, categories and discourses within feminisms and
across the arts
Women as producers and consumers of the
arts/performance/culture/media/literature
Historical, international and cross-cultural perspectives on feminism in the
arts
New definitions and new forms of 'feminist' arts practice
Interactions between feminism, the arts, and other discourses
We also offer the following themes as inspiration:
Arty Women, Tarty Men, Loss, Desire, Myth, Fantasy, Inclusions, Exclusions,
Dreams, Imaginings, The Explicit, The Implicit, Objectification, Possession,
Materiality, Virtual Reality, Representation, Resistance, Ambiguity,
Ambivalence ...
Submissions from academics, practitioners and independent scholars are
invited for
papers, performances and exhibitions. We are also accepting proposals for
panels, discussion groups, lecture-demonstrations and workshops. Please note
that standard papers will be of 20 mins duration but you may propose
sessions of up to 1 ½ hrs. (or longer if required by the nature your work).
Abstracts of 300 words in length, plus visual / video material where
applicable, and an indication of length / technical requirements, should be
sent by Friday 30th April.
Send submissions to:
