CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers are invited on aspects of rhetoric that explore the political and
ethical dimensions of language use in both literary and cultural discourse:
If we are to take the legacy of post-structuralism seriously, that is to
say, literally, and agree that identity is principally linguistic and
language instrumental in shaping our realities, might we not also
conclude there is an ethical and political dimension inherent to
language itself, and at least entertain the thought that certain
tropological constellations map out distinct avenues for change and action?
We encourage contributions from a variety of theoretical, philosophical
and political approaches to the question of ethics and language.
Possible panel topics include:
* Rhetorical capital
* History as trope
* Ethics and identity
* Tropologies of psychoanalysis
* Allegories of Nationalism and Globalism
* Rhetoric and the "War on Terror"
* Language and violence
* Aesthetics, Ideology and Discourse
* Death and other linguistic predicaments
* Materiality and the State
Panels on ethics, politics and specific rhetoricians, ancient and modern
are also welcomed, as are suggestions for specific panel sessions.
Contributions may come from any field including but not limited to film
theory, gender studies, postmodernism/structuralism, psychoanalytic
criticism, literary theory and postcolonialism etc.
