We invite proposals on the literatures and cultures of South Asia and
the South Asian Diaspora. For this year's conference we have chosen to
focus on transnationalism and its discontents in view of controversies
surrounding issues such as outsourcing, the growing visibility of India
as an emergent economic power, and recent cultural and political
initiatives such as PIO cards and Pravasi Divas Celebrations. All
approaches to the conference topic are encouraged, including
cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary constructions, theoretical
musings, literary close-readings, and cinematic analyses. We also seek
proposals that take a fresh look at literary, historical and theoretical
concerns within and across South Asia and South Asian diasporic
populations. The following is a list of possible topics for papers:
=20
--Cross-border issues of gender, sexuality, race and class
--Communities and communalism, from within and beyond the nation
--Nation and narration beyond the territorial nation state
