(including three sessions on de Doctrina Cordis / The Doctrine of the Hert)

July 8th - 10th, 2005

Gregynog, Newtown, Wales

Plenary Speaker: Bella Millet (Southampton)

Keynotes: Vincent Gillespie (Oxford)

                    Anne Savage (McMaster)

                                          Areas for discussion could include but need not be restricted to:

· Gendered discourse, rhetoric and the anchorhold: (Re)constructing sisterhood/brotherhood

· Negotiation and persuasion in anchoritic guidance writing

· Sermon rhetoric and the anchorhold

· Constructions of power, authority in anchoritic writing

· Anchoritic ideologies

· Reading anchoritic bodies: The discourse of space

· The rhetoric of fear and/or fury

· Subversive discourse

Offers of papers or abstracts of 500 words should be sent to Dr. Liz Herbert McAvoy (ehm1@le.ac.uk) or Ms. Mari Hughes-Edwards (mari.hughes-edwards@man.ac.uk) by August 31st, 2004.

In addition, there will be three full sessions devoted to the under-examined de Doctrina Cordis / Doctrine of the Hert. Abstracts for these three sessions should be sent to Dr. Denis Renevey (denis.renevey@unfri.ch) or Dr. Christiania Whitehead (c.a.r.whitehead@warwick.ac.uk), also by August 31st, 2004.
